Among Glee’s TV-pack-leading four Golden Globe nominations this morning were actor nods for stars Matthew Morrison, who plays William McKinley High School’s glee club coach Will Schuester, Lea Michele, who plays glee club’s obnoxious-yet-talented singer Rachel Berry, and Jane Lynch, who plays Will’s nemesis, the bare-knuckle-competitive coach of the Cheerios (WMHS’s championship-winning chearleading squad), Sue Sylvester. We got the three stars on the phone today to ask about their red-hot new show and find out what it was like to be nominated for Globes just halfway through its first season. Read the Q&A with Morrison below, then check out our interviews with Michele and Lynch. ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Have you had time to celebrate? MATTHEW MORRISON: It’s really just talking to friends and family and responding to emails. It’s just been a nonstop morning. Did you wake up early to watch the nominations? No. I didn’t. My agent called me, but I was kinda tossing and turning all night because I knew it was happening. But I didn’t wanna watch it. It’s been such a great year for you guys, and this must be such a great kind of reward after the first 13 aired. Yeah, well, I’ve had a lot of perspective this morning, just kind of thinking back to when we started this thing and that feeling of hoping people would catch on to it. And then just watching the show come together and being recognized. This is just extra credit now. Have you talked to any of the cast yet? I was doing these interviews and Jane Lynch just called me. But I texted with Lea [Michele] and Dianna [Agron, Quinn] and Jenna [Ushkowitz, Tina] and Chris [Colfer, Kurt]. Read More |
"Glee" creator Ryan Murphy told TheWrap that when it returns from its hiatus on April 13, the show will have even more musical numbers per episode."We've been averaging five or six songs" per episode in the first 15, he said Thursday before the Hollywood Radio and Television Society's Hitmakers lunch. "In the back nine we do an average of eight to 10" songs, he added. "The back nine is about the regionals competition," he continued. Murphy is convinced that the show's unusual rollout helped its launch. Fox aired the pilot following the "American Idol" finale last spring, and then waited four months before launching the series with the rest of its fall shows. Now it's on another four-month break. Murphy said that plan was Fox's idea, although he was consulting on it, and "it definitely paid off. I think it worked because the show is about thinking outside the box, and doing things that are unusual. They picked it up because they didn't want just another network show. They wanted to do something unusual and strange. And so that philosophy has gone into the marketing of it." |
Gleeks have been geeking out over the possibility of Broadway star Idina Menzel sweeping her way onto the hit FOX show Glee, but don’t get your broomsticks out just yet.“I don’t know what I’m doing with Idina yet,” show creator Ryan Murphy told PEOPLE at a Hollywood Radio and Television Society panel on Wednesday. “I just met with her once. It sort of got leaked, but I haven’t plotted it out yet.” Menzel, who originated the role of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West in the hit Broadway musical Wicked, and Lea Michele, the actress who plays Rachel Berry on Glee and sang Wicked’s signature number “Defying Gravity,” look a lot alike, a fact not lost on Menzel nor her husband, Private Practice star Taye Diggs, who recently said, “We knew that [resemblance] existed far, far before the TV world did.” That resemblance has some hoping the Tony-winner will play the biological mother of Rachel, who is the proud daughter of two gay dads. While fans will have to wait to see what, if anything, Murphy comes up with, Glee will ease on down the road for Kristin Chenoweth, who played Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked. Chenoweth will return as former McKinley High glee club star April Rhodes in the spring. “I know Kristin has a huge episode,” Murphy said. “She’s coming back because we write that for her, but there are some other people coming that I can’t say, but they are big music people, so I’m very excited!” –Cynthia Wang Tell us: How should Idina Menzel be cast in Glee? Mark Salling might not be a fan of the mohawk-style haircut he has to wear in character as Puck on Glee. However, don't think for a second that the young actor is taking his good casting fortune for granted. The actor took to YouTube to express his gratitude for his plum role on FOX's musical series by singing, "There is nowhere I'd rather be than chillin' on Glee. I want to thank you for making me part of this family." Giving his television family a shout-out, the singer croons, "Matt Morrison's well cast, Lea Michele blows me away/I could read a scene with Dianna Agron every day," he croons. "Kevin McHale is hilarious, Amber Riley's got soul/Chris Colfer is a great actor, Naya Rivera's beautiful." Source: Celebuzz & Glee Fansite |
