"Glee" Cast Unveils Holiday Album

Posted by Derek on 27 Oct 2010. Comment Article

NEW YORK (Reuters) - They have covered Madonna and Britney and gone from Journey to Lady Gaga, so it seems only natural with the holidays coming soon, that the cast of hit TV musical "Glee" is now singing about Christmas.

Columbia Records on Tuesday unveiled plans to release a Christmas-themed album featuring well-known holiday tunes like "Jingle Bells" and "O Holy Night" sung by the show's cast.

"Glee: The Music, The Christmas Album" goes on sale on November 16, a few weeks ahead of a special "Glee" Christmas episode to be broadcast on the Fox television network on Tuesday, December 7.

A sometimes dark, subversive comedy featuring a high school choir, "Glee" has taken U.S. pop culture by storm since its 2009 debut. Superstars like Madonna, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga readily agreed to license their songs to the show.

The program has produced three best-selling albums, won two Emmys and deals boldly with issues like sex, disability, and gay bullying. It is regularly watched by some 13.4 million U.S. viewers and has a strong youth following.

More than 15 million "Glee" songs have been downloaded on the Internet, and over 5 million "Glee" albums have been sold around the world.

'Glee's' 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' exceeded our antici ........ pation

Posted by Derek on 27 Oct 2010. Comment Article

For Halloween, "Glee" put on their version of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." As fans of both the 1975 movie and the stage production, our antici ...... pation was high, but the episode far exceeded any expectations we had going in.

As far as plot goes, it was interesting to us as "Glee" fans that the Will-Emma-Carl love triangle was the catalyst for the "RHPS"-themed episode. It surprised us at first that Emma was a "RHPS" fan, but by the time Will gave his speech at the end about "Rocky Horror" being for outcasts, we were sold.

The theater in our hometown did a midnight showing every Halloween and it was run by "outcasts" -- people we remember who were in high school when we were in junior high who were definitely "different." But every year they were at the theater handing out bags filled with newspapers, squirt guns, toast and every other prop for the show you can think of, dressed to the nines in "Rocky Horror" garb and ready to auction off the "RHPS" virgins.

Our mom (a fan of the show herself, having seen it first as a stage production in London in the '70s) let us go finally when we were 16 and we've never looked back. It's a phenomenal experience and "Glee's" acknowledgment that "Rocky Horror" is for outcasts was a wonderful sentimental cherry on top of an already rich sundae of an episode.

Moving on to the actual production - wow. Just wow. We squealed and clapped in delight no less than six times during the episode.

"Dammit, Janet" was adorable, as was Finn's body image issues and Sam's hilarious advice. We also loved how the show worked a few numbers into rehearsals so that we got more of a showcase. John Stamos' "Hot Patootie" would have stolen the show, if the rest of the cast weren't amazing. It was so much fun - we had forgotten just how talented a singer and a dancer he is.

But what really blew us away was Kurt as Riff Raff, Mercedes as Dr. Frank-n-furter and Emma's "Toucha Toucha Toucha Touch Me." First off, it's a shame this was just a 45-minute episode using "Rocky Horror" as a theme because we are now convinced Chris Colfer would absolutely kill as Riff Raff.

Secondly, while Tim Curry is always the no. 1 Dr. Frank-n-furter, Amber Riley's take on "Sweet Transvestite," even with the words edited for TV, was gorgeous and brilliant.

And having Jayma Mays' Emma take on the Susan Sarandon "Toucha Toucha Toucha Touch Me" classic was just superb. The sexual tension between her and Will is already there and frankly, we'd begun to miss that storyline. She was spot on.

Thoughts and Tidbits

They hit on all the great songs from the show -- including the lips at the beginning. Who was that? Our bet is on Santana. Who do you think it was?
Speaking of Santana, her and Brittany being in the window during "Toucha" doing the lines of Magenta and Columbia was amazing. Just one of those little things that made the episode over-the-top great.
When they finally did "Time Warp" at the end, we wish there had been time to do the entire thing, but it was fantastic nonetheless. We particularly liked Tina getting to show off her tap-dancing skills.

What did you think of the episode, "Glee" fans? We were over the moon about it, but that may just be our "Rocky Horror Picture Show" geekiness coming through.

Naya Rivera & Mark Salling - Glee Romance?

Posted by Derek on 29 May 2010. Comment Article

Is it a Glee-mance? That's the claim from this week's Us Weekly magazine. An item claims Naya Rivera and Mark Salling aren't faking their onscreen chemistry as they are getting cozy off screen as well.

The report claims though the pair — whose high school characters hook up on Fox's hit Glee — have brushed off rumors they're dating ("I think Mark's a great guy," was all Rivera, 23, would tell Us in April), a source confirms to Hot Stuff they're an item.

"They've been together nine months but got serious in the last three," the insider says. Indeed. On May 19, the twosome danced at the Maxim 100 party in L.A. "At one point, a girl yelled out, 'You look so cute together,'" says a clubgoer.

"Mark just smiled awkwardly."

The report adds: Three days earlier, the pair dined with pals at a Sushi Samba in NYC. But though they were with friends, "they only had eyes for each other," a source says. "Then they left in a cab together before everyone else."

Charice on ‘Glee’ just rumors, says US manager

Posted by Derek on 26 May 2010. Comment Article

Just rumors.

That’s how Charice Pempengco’s US handler reacted to reports the international singing sensation was joining a future season of the award-winning American musical comedy-drama TV series “Glee.”

"Despite reports in the press and on the Internet, I want to officially confirm that Charice is not scheduled to appear on the US TV show ‘Glee’,” said Marc Johnston.

“These are just rumors," Johnston said.

Charice’s Philippine manager Grace Mendoza earlier told Inquirer Entertainment that Pempengco was joining the show, which won the 2010 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series Musical or Comedy.

"Yes, it's true, Charice will soon join ‘Glee,’ Mendoza said. "And not just as a guest, but as part of the cast in a new season."

Pempengco also denied this in her official Twitter account.

"I just want to let you all know, that it's not true that I'm going to be on Glee," she said, adding, "How I wish! Haha."

Glee Stars Dish On Last Night's Emotional Lady Gaga Episode

Posted by Derek on 26 May 2010. Comment Article

If you happen to be one of the lucky ones who's seen the Glee Live concert (hint: It's so good, I literally lost my voice screaming!), you know that there is very good reason to tune in to Glee tonight: Lady Gaga.

The costumes, the bubbles, the songs, the stuffed animals the…tears?! Wait a minute, what? Again?! Here's the scoop:

Chris Colfer (Kurt) tells my pal Korbi that he shot a scene that is the most emotional scene ever on the series. And with the recent waterworks of the past few episodes, that is saying something!

"It was pretty intense," Chris say of his scene tonight with Mike O'Malley (Kurt's father) and Cory Monteith (Finn). "I kind of realized, Oh there's such a bigger meaning behind this! Omigod, this is so dramatic."

And Chris isn't the only one OMGing. Heather Morris (Brittany)—who pretty much steals the show at the Glee Live concert, BTW—tells me of tonight's episode: "Oh, god. You have no idea. It's so good! I can't wait for everybody to see it and like our outfits and everything. Naya and me, we have the most insane outfits. It's awesome."

"Lady Gaga's person made our costumes," boss Ryan Murphy tells me. "It's, I think, our most expensive number because the set is crazy and the costumes are crazy. And we like to keep it real, so Lea and Idina Menzel do an acoustic version of "Poker Face" that she blessed and wanted us to do. Sort of like a stripped-down mother/daughter 'Poker Face' that Lady Gaga was involved in."

"It's really nice and we do these cool harmonies," Idina tells me of the duet with Lea. "I guess the meaning of the song, which is quite sexual apparently, is different within the context of the show. It's actually very simple and truthful."

Speaking of the mother-daughter twist, any chance now that since Mr. Shue has made out with Shelby (Idina Menzel) and Shelby is Rachel's biomom, they all might end up one big happy (second) family?

"No, I don't think Will is going to end up being Rachel's stepdad or anything," Matthew Morrison (Will Schuester) tells me with a laugh. "That was a big twist with Idina's character. I just loved that episode. It was fun."

And, of course, it's not all Gaga tonight. "We are in KISS costumes," Cory Monteith (Finn) tells me. "I'm all Finn and I'm all like, 'Mr. Schue, we're guys. We can't do Gaga. The only guy who's gonna wanna do that is Kurt. But I don't want to.' So, I suggest KISS and it happens. It's better than Pantera!"

The pop phenom just released the following statement exclusively to EW.com:
